The marathon leads me to......
Wedding - Right before the finish of the marathon, Bob proposed! What a guy! In front of a very large audience, parents, siblings, strangers, announcers, and news media. We set the date a year from the proposal. Summer solstice! My favorite pagan holiday, or day of the year, whatever.... It's SUNSHINE!!!! So I am planning for that and again, I hate to be last! There are so many cool ideas out there about receptions, but I tend to cross them off the list if I have seen someone else already claim them for their own. This is stupid! Everything has been done already and no one has seen it all. Just because I have seen something once on a wedding blog in Nebraska A.) doesn't mean that it was a bad idea because someone in Nebraska did it, and B.) not everyone is obsessive as I am. The guest's of my wedding are not checking other sites to see if I am doing something "played out" like cupcakes. I suppose that obsessive can lead to the final topic of the night
Home owning.......
God forbid I can just be moderate about something. It's all or nothing and I have thrown my all into the house. Since we have chosen to have the reception in our backyard, my standards of "done" have shot threw the window! There was something hard to swallow about having to pay a large fee, to me, $2,000 up (w/o food, drink, chairs, flowers, etc.) just to rent a decent place was out of the question. Fuck that! Why not put $2,000 into something like landscaping, or a fence, or an upstairs bathroom, or, or, or. AND, "they", the wedding blogger's before me, say that "you" should do something for your wedding that really re-creates your personality. I love backyard BBQ's and hanging on the porch with the girls. I don't like to pay people for a place that tons of other girls have had their reception, that has nasty bathroom's, and indistinguishable stains on their too expensive chairs!
I couldn't think of anything more romantic that waking up in 5, 10, 27 years from now and staring at my backyard knowing I had my dream reception there! And with some upkeep I might have some of the same perennials!
I just have to much Minnesotan in me to blow $20,000 in one day on a reception! Of course I could do it on travel plans, or remodels, but not on a rental! I have to much eco-consciousness to allow so much waste to happen because of us. And I have to much rebellion to leave if I am having fun. So the backyard "garden" reception at my home, that I own, and am the boss of is really the only way to go. But from now until then, there is a hell-of-a-lot to be done!
